ABOUT
Stamford Pubs & Breweries by Martin Smith was published in 2006 by the Spiegl Press as a companion volume to the Royal Commission on Historical Monument's The Town Of Stamford. It's an impressive volume, the hardback measuring some 226mm by 286mm.

The book is an exhaustive survey of Stamford's pubs, inns, taverns, beer houses and breweries, collected over 332 pages with many photographs and maps. The main Gazetteer is prefaced with insightful introductory essays on Inns & Alehouses, The Drink Trade, Pub Entertainments and Alehouse Names. There is an Appendix on The Freeman Rolls & Poll Books as well as a comprehensive Bibliography, List of Illustrations and thematic Index.

Available as a short-run hardback and softback, it has long been out of print and is almost impossible to find for sale - paperback editions can fetch over £120.

Now an exclusive limited-edition hardback only reprint of the book will be released for Christmas 2025. The run will be just 300 copies, of which 200 will be signed, numbered and linked to subscriptions.
This will feature a new Preface by Martin Smith, covering changes to Stamford's hostelries since the book's publication. It will also feature a printed list of subscribers. The book will be published by the Greyhound Press, who were responsible for Folkingham - The Reluctant Town by Martin R. Smith, published in 2021.

You can be part of the new reprint by becoming a subscriber and having your name, or that of a family member or friend, printed inside. To find out more visit the Subscriber page.
